In winter we can get very dry chapped lips.In winter we can get very dry chapped lips. It was during the cold months our delicate skin is most likely to get chapped and very sore.  This situation is gets even worse if we lick our lips constantly trying to fix them.  There is nothing worse than having a great date lined up and then your lips are just so dry and chapped they look awful.

A few simple rules to treat very dry chapped lips

Stop licking your lips!  This will just make them worse,  you may think you are keeping them moist but you are doing the exact opposite.. Saliva contains  components (eg food enzymes) that have a negative effect on the skin of our lips.
Make sure during the winter months to drink more fluids. Drink every 2-3 hours for a few sips of water. This will help to avoid dehydration of your whole body, and your facial skin and lips will suffer less from dryness.

If the corners of your mouth have become inflamed dab some anti-inflammatory ointment on them, but make sure your hands are nice and clean first!

Very dry chapped lips are painful and can look unsightly so try to remember these tips.
