Brain protein may be key to depression

Depressed WomanThe scientists have discovered a protein that it seems a key role in the development of depression – a discovery that could radically change how to treat these diseases. Although long debated the role of serotonin to depression, scientists still are not sure of its meaning. Newly protein called P.11, apparently regulates how brain cells respond to serotonin and glucosamine sulphate, said researchers from Rockefeller University and the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, quoted by the journal Science. “We are all very excited about his discovery,” said Nobel laureate Paul Griyngard. “Scientists are looking for so long serotonin modulators. Newly P.11 protein obviously plays a major role both in the occurrence of depression and most likely in its treatment. Most drugs currently used against depression, aim to “deliver” more serotonin to brain cells. They proceed from the idea that the state of depression due to insufficient quantity of serotonin in the cells, but it is essential for transmitting signals between them. It is good to mention that the whey protein is helping to solve the depressions.
The research is quite interesting and quickly got many scientists, who responded and started their own researched based on this one.
